Where to Stay In Positano: Le Sirenuse

Le Sirenuse Positano (3 of 19)

“Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone“ – John Steinbeck

As Steinbeck said in 1953 during a visit to Le Sirenuse, Positano truly is a dream. From the breath-taking views of the bay to the beautiful people that fill the city, Positano is a place like no other. While I shared a city guide of Positano after my visit (click here to read), today I want to spotlight THE hotel to stay in when you visit: Le Sirenuse.

Le Sirenuse is a luxury, five-star boutique hotel that is recognized internationally as one of the top hotels along the Amalfi Coast – and the top hotel in Positano. What once was a family-owned summer home by the Sersale family (who still runs the hotel today), Le Sirenuse has catered to an exquisite array of visitors since opening in 1951. From movie stars to royals, and the regular tourist like myself, the hotel offers an authentic, yet glamorous, experience to each of its guests.

While Positano is a rather small city along the Amalfi Coast, Le Sirenuse offers the best views of the city from its many terraces. With the authentic charm of a private home combined with the refined luxury of a five-star hotel, Le Sirenuse offers a unique experience to any traveler.

THE ROOMS

Each of the 58 guest rooms within the hotel features white-washed walls, hand-painted tiles, and vaulted ceilings. The rooms are decorated with a mix of contemporary and antique furniture, contributing to the classic design of the Sersale home.  Almost all of the rooms have views overlooking the Positano Bay, so be sure to request a view when you book your stay. Since the hotel offers impeccable service and amenities, the turn-down service is complete with an Italian chocolate on your pillow and soft slippers on your bedside mat.

THE RESTAURANTS

Le Sirenuse offers four dining options to guests.  Dive into the Michelin-starred La Sponda Restaurant in the evening for light, Mediterranean cuisine, while the terrace is illuminated by 400 candles! For a more casual dining experience, indulge in appertifs and cocktails at the Pool Bar and Restaurant OR enjoy prosecco and oysters everyday on the rooftop after 6PM at the Champagne Bar & Grill. The newest addition to Le Sirenuse, Franco’s Bar, has become an instant favorite amongst guests. Dedicated to the late Franco Sersale, Franco’s panoramic views combined with decadent cocktails and contemporary design makes this the ultimate spot to unwind and soak in the atmosphere.

WHAT TO DO

While I would have no problem relaxing on the terrace with a cocktail in hand for the duration of my stay, Le Sirenuse offers plenty of activities to make your stay unforgettable. For an afternoon excursion, hop on board the hotel’s old wooden vessel, the Sant’Antonio for a complimentary cruise along the coast! The coastline is absolutely stunning and makes the Amalfi Coast so desirable, so take advantage of this option and enjoy a day on the water!

Positano is not a very big city, but this hotel is centrally located and only a quick walk down to the famous beaches lined with colorful umbrellas. Spend the afternoon wandering the charming streets, popping in and out of the local boutiques, while sipping on cold Limoncello. When you return, head up to the rooftop pool to escape the (sometimes) crowded beaches. The pool is surrounded by lemon trees, lounge trees, and bamboo awnings that allow you to escape in your own little oasis. To channel the untimate relaxation, book an appointment at the hotel’s luxury spa – and if you’re on a romantic getaway, be sure to book a couples treatment!
