Style 6 Tips For Dressing For Destination Weddings Don’t get me wrong, I love any wedding – but when a wedding takes place in a tropical destination, I know I’m always in for a great time! Aside from waking up to morning pina coladas by the pool to dancing the night away on the beach, one of the best parts of tropical weddings is the dress code. No need for conservative brunch dresses or simple lace cocktail dresses. You can spend the weekend in breezy caftans by day and chic maxis by night. Today I’m sharing 6 tips to help you find the perfect wedding attire for your next destination wedding. Keep reading below! 1 – Don’t Be Afraid To Wear Color Why wear black when you can be bright? Nothing says “island getaway” quite like bright hues, so pass on the LBD and go for a festive color to celebrate the surroundings. Bright pinks, turquoise blues, vibrant oranges – you name it. Save the subdued hues for another occasion, and go a little wild for this one. 2 – Choose Something Flowy Leave the tailored shift dress at home, and choose something with a bit more movement. Not only is a flowy dress stunning when it hits the ocean breeze, it will also keep you cool and comfy in tropical temperatures. It’s ok to break a sweat when you’re dancing in the moonlight, but it won’t feel so great in a non-breathable number. Trust me, go with the flow. 3 – Wear Something Fun Channel your inner “dancing girl emoji” and choose a dress with a statement ruffle – or a hi-lo hemline, or even a tasteful cutout (emphasis on “tasteful”). Destination weddings are all about having fun – for the bride and groom AND the guests – so pick a dress that gives you an extra pep in your step. 4 – Don’t Go Too Formal Unless the dress code specifically states black tie, don’t go overboard on the dress for a beach wedding. While this pink dress is a silk fabric, the high slit and ruffles dresses it down a bit. Ball skirts, sequins, and heavy silk are best for ballroom occasions – not so much beach weddings. 5 – Choose Some Festive Accessories For tropical affairs, I love to add a fun pop to my look. Colorful statement earrings or a bright clutch always add a bit of oomph to any dress, or you can keep your accessories simple and pair your dress with a fun pair of shoes. Have fun with your look and don’t be afraid to accessorize with color. JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. If you’re attending an outdoor wedding, go for wedges or block heels to avoid sinking into the sand or grass. If you wear a flowy maxi, rock a pair of metallic flats underneath. As fab as your shoes may look with your dress, if you can’t walk into the ceremony or reception in them, you’re bound to have an uncomfortable night! Wedges, block heels, and wedges always save the day. JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content.
