Beauty 10 Tips For Wearing Press-On Nails Press-on nails? Yes, I tried them – and I love them! As someone who prefers to DIY any aspect of my life, 2020 has been a fun challenge of trying new things! As you all know, I always color my hair at home, removed my extensions myself a month ago, my husband cut my hair – and even my sister tried blonde highlights at home when salons were closed! While some people may think DIY-ing your beauty routine could be risky, it’s extremely fun – plus it cuts back on visiting salons (Am I the only one that dreads visiting the salon?) One of my new favorite beauty finds is one I never expected to love: press-on nails! As someone with short nail beds and chips a basic manicure within a day, I have always loved adding tips to my nails – whether it was acrylic in high school or dip powder nails now. They make my nails look and feel so much healthier and more glamorous, so my 2-week nail appointments have always been my treat. With all of the chaos of 2020 and constant chipping of my at-home polish changes, I ordered a pack of the imPRESS Press-On Nails online, and I am hooked! What I love about press-on nails is the ability to give my nails a quick update without visiting a salon or waiting on polish to dry. It takes a total of maybe 3 minutes to have gorgeous nails – so whether you’re taking a break from a salon or need a nail touch up before an outing with friends, these are amazing to keep in your nail kit for any occasion! Press-on nails have gotten quite the boost in popularity this year, and after trying them, I am just wondering why I didn’t wear these sooner! I will say, they do not last as long as a salon manicure, but they are a great and super affordable alternative to make your nails feel fresh and pretty in a flash! I’ve read tons of reviews that say they last for 7-10 days for some people, but I would say they last about 3 days for me – maybe I’m clumsy or rough on my hands (?), but 3 days is my max – and that’s still worth it in my opinion! Today I’m sharing some tips and thoughts on press-on nails, and I hope you love them as much as I do! Buy This Glue The imPRESS Nails come with adhesive tape applied to each nail, and this is supposed to be enough to keep your nails on. When I tried this, my nails popped off the second I hopped in the Uber for a dinner with friends – mega fail. As soon as I tried this glue I ordered from Amazon, my nails now last for days! It is essential for press-on nails in my opinion, and it makes such a difference! Without the glue, I wouldn’t wear the nails. Apply A Thin Coat Of Clear Polish Before Applying The Press-On Nails The instructions tell you to use the included nail file to buff your nails before applying the press-on nail. However, all of this sanding isn’t really great for your nails (which is one of the reasons I use them, because I’m not damaging my nails at the salon with drills). What I like to do is apply a thin layer of clear polish on my nails first to keep a layer between my real nail and the press-on. Once the layer has dried, I use the included alcohol pad to clean the surface of my nails, then apply the glue and the press-on nail. It’s an extra step, but it keeps my natural nails protected from glue if a nail pops off! Nude Press-On Nails Look The Most Natural If you’re new to wearing press-ons, I recommend starting with a nude or light pink color to get the hang of it first. Since the colors blend so well with your skintone, if you place them slightly askew, it’s unnoticeable! Square Nails Are Easier To Apply Than Oval Or Almond Nails While I love the look of oval and almond nails, when I’m in a hurry I always choose the square shape. They are easier to place and align. Occasionally with the oval, I find one is slightly crooked so I have to take it off and start over. Maybe that’s just me, but heads up! You Can File Press-On Nails Down If You Want Shorter Nails Since I have short nail beds, I love the way tips make my nails feel longer! That being said, if you prefer your natural nail length, you can use a nail file to shorten or shape the press-ons to fit your taste to give an at-home gel look. Best of all, the shorter they are, the easier they are to keep on! Press-On NailsAre Super Fun For Trying New Nail Trends I am so excited for all of the nail trends for Fall 2020. Not only are bold colors in, but nail art, rhinestones, embellishments, and even the french manicure are huge this season. imPRESS comes out with new nails all the time, and with collaborations like this one with Rebecca Minkoff, you can go all out with your nails for less than $10 and pop them off by the time you head to work on Monday! Keep The Nail Glue In Your Purse While the nails last me for days, occasionally I’ll feel one starting to get loose and I know it’s only a matter of time before it pops off. By keeping the tiny tube of glue in my purse, I add a quick drop on-the-go and prevent any from falling off! This is totally unnecessary, but just my personal preference! Most Kits Come With Accent Nails Since imPRESS nails are all about making a manicure trendy, most of the kits come with a selection of accent nails that coordinate with the solid colors. That being said, there are enough of the solid nails to get a full monochrome manicure, so don’t shy away from a color thinking you have to use the quirky nails in the kit! Store Your Press-On Nails In Organized Boxes All of the nail kits come with 12 different size nails, a nail file, alcohol pad, and cuticle stick. I always have leftover nails from the kits, but filling my drawers with so many half-used plastic boxes made me feel cluttered – plus I never knew which sizes I had left in each kit! I use these plastic organizers to store extra earrings, and they are also the perfect container for nail storage! I shared how much I love my label maker here, so labeling each of the containers with the size of each nail makes press-on nail applications even quicker and easier! Get Creative With Seasonal Nails imPRESS rolls out a series of seasonal nails every year, whether they’re spooky for Halloween or ultra festive for Christmas! They’re such a fun way to spice up your holiday look! The Halloween nails are a bit much for my taste, but I’m excited to see this year’s Christmas collection later this year! Whether you need a last-minute nail fix or simply want to try a new way to do your nails at home, press-on nails are such a fun and easy way to update your nails!
